DNA BIO BUILDING BLOCK

DNA Bio building block is an interactive exhibits to show a complicated concept of DNA combination in structure. Different orientation of DNA will have different combination of linkage of DNA so that the outcome will be totally different. How to sense a cube of it’s orientation on a display interactive table? SenMedia team adopt 9 degree of freedom motion sensing equipped with 3axes accelerometer, 3axes gyroscope and 3 axes magnetometer with a Bluetooth wireless module and Micro-controller for data processing.

There is a camera installed on top of the screen hanging on the roof to check the position of the Bio building block’s position on the screen. By following the instruction in the screen, the visitor can put the block in right orientation to create the complicated DNA sequence for different materials in the world.

Biodiversity Gallery

The Biodiversity Gallery imitates the diverse natural environments and habitats on the planet, allowing you to enjoy an immersive experience. As you walk through the whole Gallery, you will be able to explore nature in a visual, tactile and intellectual manner through interactive exhibits, dioramas and specimen displays based on four distinctive themes, namely Local BiodiversityVariety in the WorldChanges through Time and Nature Lab.

Local Biodiversity, the first exhibition area, introduces the vibrant nature of Hong Kong from the aspects of a terrestrial, marine, estuary, stream and an aerial point of view. You will find typical information on endemic species of plants, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater fish and insects, as well as wildlife habitats such as woodlands and sandy beaches in Hong Kong.

This area is connected to the next one, covering the theme Variety in the World. A huge variety of the world’s life forms is presented here. You will travel from a flat grassland across a dense jungle and then to the depths of the ocean, where you will learn more about the flora and fauna around the world, the adaptation of animals, as well as the global problem of the extinction of species.

Out of the ocean, where life once started, evolves the next theme Changes through Time. Your curiosity will certainly be triggered here. First you will be captivated by a vast graphic on the wall, showing the genesis of life from simple cells to the appearance of complex life forms such as Homo sapiens. Through a series of enlightening interactive exhibits, you will also learn about the history of the Earth and gain an insight into the life sciences.

At the centre of the Gallery, there is a research station called the Nature Lab. You will become a scientist, experience hands-on scientific research and learn experimental techniques such as microscopy. Your attention will also turn to an extraordinary artwork on the wall of the Lab. The artwork appears to be a painting, but if you take a closer look, you will find that the patterns are made up of specimens. The Lab will certainly capture your imagination with some of the marvels and beauty of nature.
